Program Overview

EMHI Program Details

The Executive Master of Health Informatics (EMHI) program is delivered via a 24-month modular format, which requires the completion of 10.0 full-course equivalents (FCE). The program includes required coursework (7.5 FCE), elective coursework (1.0 FCE), and a Health Informatics Project (1.5 FCE).

Degree Requirements

The program begins with an introduction to theoretical and foundational knowledge of Health Informatics (HI) domains. It builds on the knowledge and skills through broad survey and experiential-based courses to expand the theoretical and practical knowledge in key areas within the discipline. Students then participate in a 4-month applied learning opportunity through their workplace or in the healthcare system. Finally, students will be a part of advanced seminars and an elective course that reflects diverse interests, strengths, and current market demand.

Course Requirements

  • Required courses: Students must complete 7.5 FCEs as follows:
    • MHI1001H: Information and Communication Technology for Health Care
    • MHI1002H: Complexity of Clinical Care for Non-Clinicians
    • MHI2001H: Fundamentals of Health Informatics
    • MHI2002H: Emergent Topics in Health Informatics: Intelligent Medicine, Machine Learning, and Knowledge Representation
    • MHI2003H: Emerging Applications in Consumer, Public and Global Health Informatics
    • MHI2004H: Human Factors and System Design in Health Care
