Program Overview

The Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies offers a comprehensive program in drama and theatre studies, encompassing undergraduate and graduate degrees. The program is designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of drama and theatre, as well as the opportunity to develop their skills in performance, directing, and playwriting.


Undergraduate Program

The undergraduate program in drama and theatre studies is designed to provide students with a broad-based education in the field. The program includes courses in acting, directing, playwriting, and theatre history, as well as opportunities for students to participate in productions and workshops.


  • Student Progression Requirements: Students must complete a minimum of 70% in the following courses: DRM220Y1 and DRM302H1.
  • Scholarships & Awards: The program offers a range of scholarships and awards to undergraduate students, including the Community Assistance Participation (CAP) award.

DRM402H1 Advanced Directing

The DRM402H1 Advanced Directing course is designed to provide students with advanced training in directing for the theatre. The course includes a range of topics, including:


  • Course Description: The course is centered on student-directed short productions, which are publicly presented at the end of term. Emphasis is placed on strong dramaturgical readings, imagination, collaboration, and creativity.
  • Pre-requisites: Students must have completed the following courses: DRM220Y1, DRM302H1, and DRM331H1.
  • Proposal Guidelines: Students must submit a proposal, which includes a statement addressing the reasons they are drawn to the particular project, a brief outline of the proposed production, and a description of their previous experience as a director.
  • Interview: Students will be required to participate in an interview, which will be held in April over Zoom.
  • Showcase: The course culminates in a showcase of student-directed productions, which are publicly presented at the end of term. The showcase is designed to provide students with the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge in a practical setting.
