Program Details
The program is designed to support our Nurse Residents with a comprehensive transition to practice experience.
New Employee Orientation (NEO)
The Nurse Resident attends 3 days of organizational orientation. NEO includes Human Resources Introduction, Glucometer, Benefits, Epic, and General Nursing Orientation. NEO is where organizational enculturation begins, in which NLRNs learn about the UC culture, practice, and values of the organization and nursing profession.
Nurse Residency Program (Core)
The Nurse Resident attends 6 classes over a period of six months. These Core NRP classes are foundational to professional nursing and align with the American Nursing Association's Standards of Nursing Practice.
Nurse Residency Program (Specialty)
The Nurse Resident attends additional specialty classes based on the unit they are hired into and level of care. Specialty NRP classes are developed based on curricula that align with specialty nursing organizations.
Preceptorship/Clinical Orientation
The Nurse Resident is paired with a preceptor during Clinical Orientation for a three-month period. Preceptors assess, validate, and remediate Nurse Resident competency.
Nurse Retention
The Nurse Resident is invited to participate in Mentorship.
