Program Overview

The Master of Advanced Studies in Data Science & Engineering (MAS-DSE) is a two-year program offered by the Jacob's School of Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. The program is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills in data science and engineering, preparing them for careers in this field.

Cost of Attendance

The estimated basic cost of attendance for the MAS-DSE program is $63,333 for both California residents and non-California residents. This includes:

    • Food & Housing for students without dependents: $26,133
    • Books, course materials, supplies, and equipment: $645
    • Miscellaneous Personal Expenses: $2,277

    • UC San Diego Health Insurance Fee (may be waived if covered by private insurance that is equivalent or better): $5,643

Notes

1. The Cost of Attendance (COA) does not include the one-time Document fee of $100.
2. The COA includes the annual UC San Diego Graduate Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) of $5,643.
3. Non-California Resident and international students are not charged a Non-California Resident Supplemental Tuition cost.
4. The MAS-DSE (Year 1 of 2) California and Non-California Resident Basic Budget Total is $63,333.
5. The MAS-DSE Program California Resident Basic Budget Total is based on the criteria in footnote #7.

Financial Assistance Information

• Students may submit Cost of Attendance Add-On forms with appropriate documentation for rent and utilities, transportation costs, computer purchases, and/or increased books and supplies.
• Federal Direct Unsubsidized and Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loans require the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
• Students who are unable to complete the FAFSA and/or California Dream Act Application or who are enrolled in less than half-time (6 units) may be able to apply for a private loan.
