Program Overview
The AutoCAD for High Schoolers program is designed to introduce students to the essentials of drafting and design using AutoCAD. This program will cover the basics of CAD symbols, kitchen and bath fixtures, and floor plan creation. Students will learn to draw on layers, add text, dimensions, and plot drawings at a scale.
Learning Format
The program is offered online, allowing students to learn at their own pace over a period of 3-9 months. There are no in-person meetings, and courses are 100 percent online.
What You Will Learn
- Get an introduction to using AutoCAD to draft CAD symbols and create a floor plan.
- Become familiar with drawing on layers and adding text, dimensions, and plotting.
- Gain an understanding of AutoCAD commands and menu systems.
- Learn two-dimensional (2D) drawing commands, dimensioning, layering systems, and drafting techniques.
- Gain experience developing and assembling a construction document, including plotting, using drafting symbols, adding fixtures, and creating a floor plan.
Prerequisites
Students should have a good command of the Windows environment. Autodesk AutoCAD software is required, with instructions provided on the first day of class.

- ARCH-90003: Futures: Working Drawings Through AutoCAD for High Schoolers (3 units, cost TBD)
- ARCH-90004: Futures: Advanced Working Drawings Through AutoCAD for High Schoolers (3 units, cost TBD)
Enrollment
Students can pay per course as they work through the program, with courses taken in sequence. No Futures scholarships are available for Fall 2025.
