Program Overview


Introduction to the B.S. in Business Economics Program

The B.S. in Business Economics Major is a collaborative, interdisciplinary degree program between the Rady School and the Department of Economics at UC San Diego. This major aims to teach students how to operate within firms and how firms operate within markets.


Declaring the Major

The B.S. in Business Economics Major is open to registered UC San Diego students pursuing a bachelor's degree. Students can view two- and four-year academic plans on the Department of Economics website. To declare the major, students can use the Major/Minor Tool on Tritonlink. If experiencing difficulties, students should contact the Economics Department.


Major Requirements

The program provides training in core economics disciplines (microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics) and core business disciplines (accounting, finance, management, marketing, operations). Students must take all courses for the Business Economics major for a letter grade.

Declaring the Business Economics Major

Senior Students

Senior students should contact their College regarding the Quarter Limitation policy. If they have 150+ units, any major change requires Department and College Approval.


Newly Admitted Students

Newly admitted students can declare the major after enrolling in courses for their first quarter at UCSD.


Double Majoring

The major is open to all students, except those with specific majors like Economics, Management Science, and others. Students cannot major in Business Economics and minor in Business due to curriculum overlap.
