Program Overview


Program Overview

The Incredible India Embedded Program is an elective course offered to Penn State students studying health care, sports, or community disciplines. This program allows students to learn about their fields of study during the fall semester and then travel to Kerala, India, in December to perform community service related to their fields.


Program Details

  • The course, NURS 499, is three credits and will be live-screened during the semester for those who cannot attend class on campus at Penn State Mont Alto.
  • The course instructor is Anne Devney, Penn State Mont Alto assistant teaching professor in nursing.
  • The deadline to enroll is August 26, 2019.
  • The trip will occur during the 2019 holiday break, with tentative travel dates from December 9 to 22, 2019.

Estimated Costs

  • Air fare: $800 to $1,500 (financial aid and student loans are available through FASFA)
  • India program: $2,540 (includes in-country food, lodging, transportation, and excursions)

Program Leadership

Penn State Mont Alto faculty members Anne Devney and India native Somjit Barat, School of Business associate professor, will accompany the group. The GVI organization, a company that runs high-quality sustainable development and experiential education programs, will serve as guide and host during the trip.
