Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies
The Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies degree is a theme-oriented and student-designed program that allows students to focus on developing their skills in communication and analysis along with their leadership abilities through a broad education that introduces methods of analysis used in the liberal arts disciplines.
Program Objectives
The objectives of the program are to broaden the student's understanding, interests, and skills, and to help the student become a more responsible, productive member of the family and community.
Program Structure
The degree program features sufficient electives to permit some customization according to the student's interests or career plans. It consists of 36 credits, divided into two sections:
- The core (12 credits) consists of 3 credits each in the following:
- research methods/projects
- communication skills
- theory/application
- critical analysis
- The additional courses (24 credits) consist of courses directed toward the student's theme, 15 credits of which must be at the 400 level.
Program Suitability
The Multidisciplinary Studies program may be the right degree program for students who:
- would like to customize a degree catered to their career goals
- have not earned an undergraduate degree
Program Location
The program is offered at Penn State Hazleton, a residential campus located near Interstates 80 and 81 in northeastern Pennsylvania, offering 13 bachelor's degrees, five associate degrees, and the first two years of more than 275 Penn State majors.
