Beef Cattle Short Course
The Beef Cattle Short Course is a two-day event presented by Penn State Extension with support from the Pennsylvania Beef Producers Working Group. The program will begin with a live cattle evaluation, offering participants an opportunity to assess a class of cattle and learn how those evaluations translate to outcomes on the rail.
Following the live cattle evaluation, guest speakers and workshops will be introduced, designed to help participants gain confidence in concepts related to raising cattle for the beef market and maintaining a healthy herd. On Day 2, the cattle evaluated live will be assessed on the rail. University specialists will discuss yield and quality and demonstrate carcass breakdown techniques.
