Security Guard Certification

The college offers a Security Guard Certification program, which includes:

• 8-Hour Pre-Assignment Training for Security Guards
  • Topics covered: role of the security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, ethics and conduct
  • Requirement: passing an examination for successful completion
• 16-Hour On-the-Job Training for Security Guards
  • Topics covered: role of the security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, ethics and conduct, incident command system, terrorism
  • Requirement: passing an examination for successful completion

Requirements for Security Guard Certification

To be eligible for the Security Guard Certification program, applicants must:

• Be 18 years of age or above
• Have a Social Security Number
• Have a New York State ID
