Introduction to the BMCC CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP)

The BMCC CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP) is an intensive English program designed for students who have been accepted into a CUNY undergraduate program but require improvement in their academic English skills before taking credit-bearing courses. CLIP focuses on developing reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to prepare students for college-level classes.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for CLIP, students must:

• Have been accepted into a CUNY undergraduate program.
• Need to strengthen their academic English skills.
• Be a freshman or transfer student from BMCC or another CUNY college who did not pass the CUNY tests because English is not their first language.
• Have a recommendation from the ESL department or a counselor.

Important Considerations

• International students with a student visa must apply to the BLIIS program instead of CLIP.

Step-by-Step Enrollment Process

To enroll in CLIP, follow these steps:

1. Apply to CUNY: Students must be fully accepted into a CUNY undergraduate program before joining CLIP.
2. Follow Up on Your CUNY Application: Ensure all documents are submitted and the application is complete.
3. Take the Accuplacer ESL Test: Measure your English level after acceptance and advising.
4. Check Your Eligibility: If your Accuplacer ESL score is below 105, you may qualify for CLIP.
5. Register for CLIP: Submit the BMCC CLIP Registration Form after confirming your eligibility.

• BMCC CLIP is located at 163 W. 125th Street, 6th Floor, New York, NY 10027.
• Classes are held in-person; there are no online classes.
