Introduction to the Thomas Hunter Honors Program
The Thomas Hunter Honors Program is an interdisciplinary program designed for outstanding undergraduate students. It provides a course of study tailored to individual needs and interests, fostering high academic potential, interdisciplinary interests, intellectual curiosity, and the willingness to explore unfamiliar fields and accept challenges.
Program Overview
- The program is suited for students who demonstrate evidence of high academic potential, interdisciplinary interests, and intellectual curiosity.
- Students may apply for admission on their own or be invited based on their outstanding academic records.
- Many graduates of the Thomas Hunter Honors Program pursue PhD programs in various arts and sciences or attend law, medical, and other professional schools.
- Others choose careers in professional, artistic, and business fields.
College Requirements
- The program requires students to maintain breadth in their programs.
- Students must create a significant pattern of courses in at least two academic areas of investigation, including:
- Humanities and Arts
- Social Sciences
- Sciences and Mathematics
- At least one laboratory science course is required.
- All programs must be approved every semester by a Council adviser.
- Students entering Hunter in fall 2013 or later must complete the College’s Common Core requirements.
- Note that all colloquia in the 200 or 300 series are “W” courses.
