Introduction to the Science for Forensic Science Program

The Science for Forensic Science program is designed to provide students with a science-based foundation for transfer to John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where they can receive their Bachelor of Science degree. This program is part of the CUNY Justice Academy, a transfer-focused collaboration between six City University of New York (CUNY) community colleges and John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Program Details

The Science for Forensic Science program is a dual/joint degree program that allows students to earn an Associate's Degree from Queensborough Community College and then transfer to John Jay College of Criminal Justice to complete their Bachelor's Degree. The program requires a minimum GPA of 2.5 for transfer.

• By majoring in Science for Forensic Science at Queensborough Community College, students are automatically part of the CUNY Justice Academy.
• Upon successful completion of the program requirements, students will receive an Associate's Degree from Queensborough Community College.
• Students are then guaranteed acceptance to John Jay College of Criminal Justice to complete their Bachelor's Degree in Forensic Science.

Student Learning Outcomes for Academic Programs

The program is designed to help students achieve the following learning outcomes:

General Education Outcomes

• Communicate effectively in various forms
• Use analytical reasoning to identify issues or problems and evaluate evidence in order to make informed decisions
• Reason quantitatively as required in various fields of interest and in everyday life
• Apply information management and digital technology skills useful for academic research and lifelong learning
• Apply scientific methods and reasoning to investigate issues or problems in the natural and social sciences in order to draw conclusions

Program Outcomes

• Demonstrate competency in the concepts and methods of the foundation mathematics and sciences courses required for transfer to the junior year in Forensic Science at John Jay College: general chemistry, organic chemistry, general biology, calculus, and calculus physics.
• Apply concepts learned in the classroom and make conclusions based on scientific thinking
• Work collaboratively in the laboratory to acquire and analyze data and to solve problems
• Demonstrate an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities as they relate to the sciences
