Program Information

The Continuing Education at Hunter College offers various programs, including the Dental Assistant Certificate. This program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in dental assisting, one of the fastest-growing healthcare professions.


Dental Assistant Certificate

Program Description

The 60-hour Dental Assisting Program covers key areas such as administrative aspects, clinical aspects, and professional skills required to function as an assistant in a dental practice. The program includes topics such as:


  • Introduction to oral anatomy
  • Dental operatory
  • Dental equipment
  • Introduction to tooth structure
  • Primary and permanent teeth
  • The oral cavity and related structures
  • Proper patient positioning
  • Dental hand-pieces
  • Sterilization

Clinical Externship

As part of this program, students are eligible to participate in a 40-hour clinical externship.


Requirements

Dental assistants and aides should have or be pursuing a high school diploma or GED.


National Certification

This program meets the necessary requirements to take the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Radiology Health and Safety (RHS) Examination and the National Workforce Career Association (NWCA) Dental Assisting (DACC) exam.


Tuition and Schedule

  • Dental Assisting On-Campus: 60 hours, $1,499
    • Schedule: February 24 to April 30, Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:00-9:00 pm
  • Dental Assistant (eLearning Content): $1,299
    • Schedule: Online, self-paced; open enrollment (no live instruction or class meetings)
