Pharmacy Technician Certificate
Program Description
The Pharmacy Technician Certificate program is designed to prepare students to work as pharmacy technicians in retail or other pharmacy settings and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. The program includes 80 hours of instruction and covers topics such as:
- Pharmacy medical terminology
- The history of pharmacy
- Pharmacy practice in multiple environments
- Pharmacy calculations and measurements
- Reading and interpreting prescriptions
- Defining drugs by generic and brand names
- Dosage calculations
- Drug classifications
- The “top 200 drugs”
- I.V. flow rates
- Sterile compounding
- Dose conversions
- Aseptic technique
- Handling of sterile products
- Total parenteral nutrition (TPN)
- Dispensing of prescriptions
- Inventory control
- Billing and reimbursement

Requirements
Students should have or be pursuing a high school diploma or GED.
Clinical Externship
As part of this Pharmacy Technician program, students will be eligible to participate in an 80-hour clinical externship.
National Certification
This program meets the necessary requirements to take the Pharmacy Technician Certified Board (PTCB) – Certified Pharmacy Technician (PTCB) exam and the National Workforce Career Association (NWCA) Pharmacy Technician (PTAC) Exam.
Course Schedule
- Pharmacy Technician: On-Campus, February 23 to May 20, Mondays & Wednesdays 6:00-9:15 pm (skips April 6)
- Pharmacy Technician (eLearning Content): Online, self-paced; open enrollment (no live instruction or class meetings)
