Program Overview


Introduction to the Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood and Elementary Education

The Elementary and Early Childhood Education Department at Queens College offers two Bachelor of Science (BS) degree programs: the BS in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and the BS in Bilingual, Early Childhood and Elementary Education. These programs are designed to prepare professionals who honor student diversity by providing opportunities for multiple forms of learning and expression.


Program Overview

  • The BS in Early Childhood and Elementary Education prepares students for the New York State Initial Certification in both Early Childhood (Birth through Grade 2; B-2) and Childhood Education (Grades 1-6).
  • The BS in Bilingual, Early Childhood and Elementary Education prepares students for the New York State Initial Certification in both Early Childhood (Birth through Grade 2; B-2) and Childhood Education (Grades 1-6), as well as the Bilingual Extension.

Program Requirements

General Education Requirements

All students at Queens College must fulfill the College’s general education requirements. General education courses may not be taken with the P/NC option. Students must earn a grade of C or higher in all courses.


Major Requirements

  • Please refer to the specific requirements for the BS in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and the BS in Bilingual, Early Childhood and Elementary Education.
  • It is strongly recommended that students consult with an advisor to ensure they meet all program requirements.

Program Coordinators

  • Dr. Michelle Fraboni is the program coordinator for the BS in Early Childhood and Elementary Education.
  • Dr. Marcela Ossaparra is the program coordinator for the BS in Bilingual, Early Childhood and Elementary Education.

Advisement

  • Advising hours are available for students to discuss their program requirements and progress.
  • Students are encouraged to review the program overview and download and complete the checklist for the EECE BS major before applying.

Application Process

  • The application to begin the professional sequence/advanced coursework in the new EECE BS major is available.
  • The deadline to submit the application is October 20, 2025.

Additional Information

  • Queens College has a Jointly Registered Program with Queensborough and LaGuardia Community Colleges.
  • Students who previously attended these institutions should contact the Department during their first semester upon transfer to Queens College.
  • First- and second-year students considering careers in early childhood and elementary education are encouraged to apply.
