Program Overview

Elementary Mathematics Specialist Program (MSEd)

This program aims to equip teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to become effective professional development facilitators, coaches, cluster teachers, and mentors.

Academic Plan

The program offers two tracks:

  • EMTSP-MSED (for students certified in Childhood Education)
  • EMSNC-MSED (for students not certified in Childhood Education)

Total Credits

Students must earn at least 33 credits to complete the program.

Program Code for Certification

The program code for certification is 25578 – CHILDHOOD EDUCATION, GRADES 1-6.

Advisors

The program advisors are:

  • Frank Gardella, Program Leader
  • Robert Gyles, Faculty Advisor
  • Arisa Baksh, Certification, Graduation and Administrative Advisor

Program Sequences

Students must meet with their faculty advisor to determine their particular course of study before registering for classes.

Transfer of Credits

A matriculated student may request a transfer of credit for a graduate-level course completed at another institution. The course must have been taken within the past five years and closely match the content of a required course in the student’s Hunter College program. The request will be reviewed by faculty for equivalence. Each program sets the courses for which a transfer will be considered. Graduate students are limited to 12 transfer credits.

Clinical Experiences

Students in the Elementary Mathematics Specialist Program (MSEd) do not participate in developmental field experiences (fieldwork) or supervised teaching (student teaching and/or practicum).

Graduation

Graduation is the official completion of the program and conferral of an academic degree. In order to graduate, students must apply for graduation using CUNYFirst the semester before the semester of their planned graduation and complete any outstanding requirements by the stated deadlines.
