Certificate in Legal Aspects of the Music Business
The Certificate in Legal Aspects of the Music Business is a standalone program or part of the Master of Arts in Live Entertainment Management or Master of Arts in Music Industry. To transfer credits into one of these master's degrees, students must earn at least a 3.0 GPA in the certificate courses.
Course Descriptions
The certificate requires completing three designated courses within two years, with a minimum combined GPA of 3.0 and no less than a C- in any one course. A bachelor's degree is required to enroll in this certificate program.
- MIN 774 – Music Copyright Law: An in-depth study of the essential provisions of the U.S. copyright law as they are related to music.
- MIN 750 – Music Industry Agreements: Explores the legal agreements between different parties in the music business, such as record companies, recording artists, music producers, and licensees.
- MIN 738 – Legal Aspects of the Live Entertainment Industry: Students become familiar with various Artist, Client, Production, Vendor, and Facility Contracts and Agreements commonly used in the industry.
