Program Overview


Diagnostic Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

The Diagnostic Pathology and Laboratory Medicine pathway provides a means for medical students who may be interested in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Surgery, or Oncology to gain broad and in-depth insights into the key role of the Pathologist as vital to the health care team and the significance of the Pathology Laboratory in research and patient care. Students will be expected to work closely with a faculty mentor.

Description

The pathway offers students the opportunity to explore the field of pathology and laboratory medicine, with a focus on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the role of the pathologist in the healthcare team and the importance of the pathology laboratory in research and patient care.

    • Biography: Dr. Gomez is tenured Professor of Pathology and Vice Chair of Education at the University of Miami Miller School Of Medicine. Board certified in Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology, she has over 20 years of experience in diagnostic pathology with focused expertise in cytopathology and breast and head and neck surgical pathology.

    • Biography: Dr. Amador received her medical degree from the National University of Colombia and completed fellowships in surgical pathology and hematopathology at the Mayo Clinic and Northwestern University.
