Overview

The Artist Diploma in Vocal Performance is a graduate degree program designed for highly accomplished artists seeking to further hone their skills and gain a competitive edge in their professional careers. Candidates for this advanced degree are leaders in the Department of Vocal Performance and go on to become leaders in their respective areas of specialty.


Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to the Artist Diploma in Vocal Performance program, applicants must submit the following:


  • An online application
  • Application fee
  • Resume
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Official transcripts from every post-secondary school attended Additionally, applicants must submit certain supplemental materials, including:
    • Prescreen/performance
    • Live audition (preferred)
    • TOEFL/IELTS score, as applicable

Curriculum Requirements

The curriculum for the Artist Diploma in Vocal Performance includes:


  • Applied Lessons in Voice (MVP VO5) (2 semesters at 4 credits each): 8 credits
  • Performance Ensembles (1 credit each): 2 credits
  • Recital (MVP 814) (1 credit each): 2 credits
  • Approved Studies in Music (any combination of credits, equaling 6 credits): 6 credits Total Credit Hours: 18

Mission

The mission of the Artist Diploma in Vocal Performance is to train and equip singers to pursue a career singing on the national and international operatic, recital, and concert stages.


Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:


  • Perform two solo recitals, demonstrating skill in vocal technique
  • Research and write program notes to accompany solo vocal recital
  • Sing two solo recitals that include repertoire in at least 4 languages and represent at least 4 historical, musical periods
