Program Overview
The Jackson Memorial Hospital/Jackson Health Systems Orthopaedic Sports Medicine fellowship program is an ACGME accredited 1-year program located in Miami, FL and affiliated to the University of Miami. The fellow anchors the Sports Medicine service at University of Miami Sports Medicine Institute along with residents from the Jackson Memorial Hospital Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program. Program faculty comprise the University of Miami Sports Medicine Institute, based at the Lennar Foundation Medical Center in Coral Gables, FL. This state-of-the-art facility opened in December 2016 and is located on the undergraduate campus of the University of Miami and is adjacent to the Hurricane’s athletic facilities. The fellow is directly involved with the care of patients at the University of Miami Sports Medicine Institute practice locations and the Jackson Memorial Hospital Sports Medicine clinic. As the official medical provider for all University of Miami Athletics and the Miami Marlins, the fellow is also directly involved in the care of these athletes. There are no call or moonlighting responsibilities.

Program Goals
The goal of the fellowship program is to provide a well-rounded sports medicine education to our fellows by exposing them to all facets of sports medicine, regardless of academic or private practice goals. Prior fellows have gone on to a variety of employment types, including hospital employed, academic, and private practice settings. We achieve a well-rounded experience by ensuring exposure to:
- High volume outpatient clinical setting in state-of-the-art facilities
- Case Breakdown: 56% knee arthroscopy/ACL, 22% shoulder/elbow arthroscopy, 10% open shoulder/elbow reconstruction/arthroplasty, 9% open knee reconstruction/osteotomy/cartilage restoration, 3% foot/ankle/leg
- Exposure to Level 1 Trauma Center – Multiligament/complex knee injuries
- NCAA Division 1 and Professional team coverage
- Experience with the largest Concussion Management Program in South Florida
- Education of Residents and Students
- Structured weekly didactic schedule
- Mondays – Sports Curriculum Conference
- Tuesdays – MSK Radiology
- Fridays – case presentation/case review/indications conference
- Basic Science and Clinical Research opportunities with dedicated research time
- Clinical Outcomes research at University of Miami Sports Medicine Institute
- Biomechanical studies at Max Biedermann Institute/Mt. Sinai Hospital
- Motion analysis experiments at Max Orovitz Laboratory, University of Miami Department of Kinesiology/Sport Sciences

The program provides a comprehensive experience in sports medicine, including clinical practice, research, and education. The fellow will have the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population, including athletes from the University of Miami and the Miami Marlins. The program is designed to provide a well-rounded education in sports medicine, preparing fellows for a variety of career paths.
