Program Overview


Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery Fellowship

The University of Miami/Jackson Health System offers an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS), hosted by the Desai Sethi Urology Institute.


Program Overview

This unique combined, alternating fellowship accepts both Urology and Obstetrics & Gynecology applicants in rotating years and is jointly approved by the American Board of Urology (ABU) and the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG).


  • Urology-trained fellows: 2-year program
  • OB/GYN-trained fellows: 3-year program

The program provides an exceptional clinical and academic experience designed to prepare fellows for leadership in female pelvic medicine, reconstructive surgery, and academic medicine.


Program Leadership

Katherine A Amin, M.D., FRCSC

Assistant Professor of Clinical Urology, Urogynecology Biography: Dr. Amin earned her medical degree at the University of Buffalo and completed her Urologic Surgery residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (New York, NY). Dr. Amin completed an ACGME-accredited fellowship at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, WA in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery/Urogynecology.


Raveen Syan, M.D.

Associate Professor of Clinical Urology Biography: Dr. Raveen Syan is the Director of Female Urology and Associate Professor of Clinical Urology at the Desai Sethi Urology Institute, University of Miami. She serves as the Assistant Program Director for the Urogynecology and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship. She specializes in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, treating conditions like incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.


Clinical Training

Fellows gain hands-on experience in:


  • Voiding dysfunction and pelvic floor disorders
  • Robotic, laparoscopic, and open pelvic reconstruction
  • Vaginal hysterectomy and apical suspensions
  • Complex fistula repair
  • Mid-urethral and autologous slings
  • Sacrocolpopexy and intra-abdominal prolapse approaches
  • Urinary diversions and neurourology procedures
  • Neuromodulation and minimally-invasive overactive bladder procedures
  • Advanced urodynamics and multidisciplinary case management

Fellows will also rotate with experts in gastroenterology and colorectal surgery to provide a well-rounded, team-based approach to pelvic floor care.


Research & Academic Curriculum

The fellowship includes dedicated time for research with access to:


  • Clinical and basic science research mentorship
  • Training in biostatistics, study design, and grant writing
  • Database management and academic publishing support

Fellows are encouraged to present at national and international meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals.


Application Process

Eligible applicants must have completed an ACGME-accredited residency in Urology or Obstetrics & Gynecology.
