The Master of Science in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution at Columbia University prepares students to analyze the root causes and dynamics of conflict and to transform disputes through reasoned and resourceful interventions.

The program has On-campus or Online (with Residency) modality options.


  • Full-Time On-Campus:
    • Start: Fall
    • Complete the program in 3 semesters: Fall - Spring - Summer OR Fall - Spring - Fall
    • Modality: in-person on Columbia's New York City campus (some electives may be online)
  • Part-Time On-Campus:
    • Start: Fall
    • Complete the program in 4-7 semesters
    • Modality: in-person on Columbia's New York City campus (some electives may be online)
  • Online (with Residency):
    • Start: Spring
    • Complete the program in 4 semesters: Spring - Summer (on-campus) - Fall - Spring
    • Modality: online & a 2-week in-person residency on Columbia's New York City campus

Program Details

  • The required residency consists of a 2-week on-campus intensive study session with 2 core courses.
  • After the first two weeks, students have the option to remain on-campus for intensive elective courses.
  • The Summer 2026 on-campus residency dates for the Online (with Residency) program are as follows:
    • Required:
      • Week 1 (5/26/26 - 5/29/26): On-campus 9:00am - 5:00pm
      • Week 2 (6/1/26 - 6/3/26): On-campus 9:00am - 5:00pm
    • Optional (electives): various intensive elective courses, meeting on-campus 9:00am - 5:00pm, will be offered from 6/5/26 - 6/30/26

International Students

  • International students are responsible for ensuring they have read and understand the University’s student visa application eligibility and requirements.
  • Please note that it is not permissible to enroll while in B-1/B-2 status.
  • Students on an F1 visa are permitted to complete no more than one online class each semester.
