Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Fellowship

The Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine fellowship trains physicians to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to function as consultant regional anesthesiologists, particularly in the management of complex patient populations.


Fellowship Overview

  • Program start date: July or August 1
  • Number of positions available: 2-3
  • Length of program: 12 months

The regional fellow will become a proficient clinical regionalist during the year and will spend at least 3 days each week in the operating room suite, performing regional anesthetic techniques and gaining expertise in the management of perioperative care of patients undergoing regional anesthesia.


Fellowship Details

Throughout the year, fellows will:


  • Represent our Division at departmental Case Conferences
  • Participate in a weekly Journal Club
  • Attend monthly Fellow’s conferences
  • Assist with regional anesthesia techniques outside of the orthopedic surgery core
  • Spend time in the anatomy laboratory
  • Have the opportunity to teach first-year medical students in their first-year clinical anatomy course
  • Instruct and supervise junior residents on rotation in Regional Anesthesia
  • Participate in ongoing clinical research projects
  • Receive instruction in experimental design and implementation
  • Dedicate up to two days per week to clinical research

The department provides support for the fellow to attend one extra-institutional meeting, as well as any meeting at which the fellow’s work is presented. Based on interest, fellows can be paired with an appropriate faculty mentor to facilitate research collaboration.
