Program Overview


Community-Based Participatory Research Course

The Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) course provides participants with structured training and practical experience in academic-community research partnerships.


Overview

Academic-community partnered pairs will receive:


  • Training in CBPR methodology
  • Consultation with CBPR experts on community engagement and partnership dynamics
  • Access to other Irving Institute resources

Academic and community applicants are required to enroll and partake in the CBPR Course as partners. Attendance is expected from both academic and community partners. In addition to the seminars, participants undertake independent reading, writing, and field exercises outside of class.


Eligibility

The CBPR Course is open to all Columbia faculty with a title of Assistant Professor or above. Community applicants must hold high level positions with a health, social service and/or faith-based not-for-profit organization serving New York City.


Deadlines

Enrollment for this course will open early 2026.


Cost

The CBPR Program is offered at no cost to all admitted participants.
