Program Overview

Introduction to the JD-MBA Program

The JD-MBA Program at Northwestern University is a unique and innovative program that allows students to earn both a Juris Doctor (JD) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in just three years. This program is designed for students who want to pursue a career in law and business, and provides them with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in both fields.

Program Structure and Curriculum

The JD-MBA Program is a three-year program that combines the standard first-year law curriculum with the core MBA curriculum. Students spend the first year at the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law's Chicago campus, where they complete the standard first-year law curriculum. The first summer and entire second year of study occur at Kellogg, where students complete the core MBA requirements. The second summer is devoted to an internship in law or business, and the final year is spent at the Law School, where students complete their remaining courses.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the JD-MBA Program, students must have earned a bachelor's or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university. Prior study in business or law-related fields is not required, and most students enter the program with a wide variety of work experiences.

Admission Criteria

Admission to the JD-MBA Program is highly competitive, and applicants must submit an integrated application through Kellogg Admissions. Applicants must also submit an eligible GMAT or GRE score, and register with the Law School Credential Assembly Service (CAS). A supplemental Law School application item must also be completed.

Program Highlights

The JD-MBA Program offers a rich array of experiential learning opportunities, enabling students to apply knowledge gained in the classroom to real-world, on-the-ground experiences. Students can provide legal and strategic consulting to small businesses through Northwestern's Entrepreneurship Law Center, and can also pursue global experiences at both schools.

Majors and Pathways

As a JD-MBA student, you'll participate in the same classes and coursework as your counterparts seeking only the MBA or law degree. Our strong MBA core curriculum creates a well-balanced academic foundation. You may opt to choose from seven majors during your MBA studies: Accounting, Economics, Finance, Marketing, Operations, Strategy, and Management Analytics. A major requires that a student complete the core course for the major and a minimum of four electives.

Electives

We offer a flexible curriculum to fit your needs and future plans. Our catalog contains more than 200 MBA courses that constantly adapt to the changing business landscape.
