Journalism Residency

The Journalism Residency program is an optional program for undergraduate students that provides hands-on experience in reporting, writing, and producing content on multiple media platforms. The program includes:

• Working alongside professional journalists for one quarter at one of Medill's numerous media partners
• Immersing oneself in a media outlet in Chicago, across the country, or around the world
• Developing new skills, testing old ones, sharpening research tactics, exploring new communication methods, and building confidence working under deadline pressure
• Having a faculty mentor to ensure the time in the program results in development of the student's career
• Having grants available to help make sure the Journalism Residency isn't a financial burden

Medill Illinois News Bureau

The Medill Illinois News Bureau is an option for students completing their JR in the spring, which puts students at the heart of state government in Springfield, Ill. Stories written by students are published by Capitol News Illinois and distributed to hundreds of outlets in the region.
