Phase 2 - Commercial Real Estate as a Professional Career
Program Overview
Program Overview
The Commercial Real Estate as a Professional Career Course is delivered by the Real Estate Division in partnership with the Saskatchewan Real Estate Commission. This course is required for salespersons under The Real Estate Act who wish to trade in commercial real estate. The course provides an introduction to Commercial Real Estate and investment, addressing topics such as leasing, business brokerage, and industrial real estate.
Course Details
- Delivered in a self-paced, online learning format, allowing flexibility for busy adult learners while providing structure for high-quality learning.
- Regularly scheduled exams take place at various times throughout the year across the province.
- The course fee includes the first examination registration.
- Students have one year from the course registration date to successfully complete the course and exam.
Prerequisites
To register in the Phase 2 – Commercial Real Estate as a Professional Career course, students must have successfully completed the Phase 1 - Real Estate as a Professional Career course and examination. While students may take Phase 2 – Residential Real Estate as a Professional Career and Phase 2 – Commercial Real Estate as a Professional Career courses concurrently, to be registered under The Real Estate Act as a salesperson permitted to trade in commercial real estate, one must:
- Have completed the Phase 2: Residential Real Estate as a Professional Career course.
- Be registered as a salesperson permitted to trade in residential real estate.
Assignments
Students are required to submit multiple-choice assignments to be eligible to register for the examination. These assignments ensure that students review the course materials and provide feedback on their level of understanding.
Examination
- Phase 2 examinations are two hours in length and contain 60 multiple-choice questions, each worth one mark.
- The passing grade is 70%.
- A passing grade sets the minimum level of performance needed to practice in a profession, as determined by the regulatory body.
- Students have three attempts to successfully pass the examination.
Sustainability
The UBC Sauder School of Business and the Real Estate Division are committed to taking meaningful steps to achieve carbon neutrality and reduce emissions. By using the eBook or PDF version of the course manual included with registration, students help reduce approximately 350 printed pages. This shift to digital resources reduces over 530 metric tonnes of CO₂e annually and helps fund a $20,000 scholarship for a student in the UBC Sauder MBA Climate Career Track.
Accessibility
The Real Estate Division's goal is to ensure fair and consistent treatment of all students, including students with disabilities, in accordance with their distinct needs and in a manner consistent with academic principles. Examination accommodations enable students to demonstrate their knowledge of the course materials in cases where a disability may impact their ability to access exams under standard conditions.
Registration with the Commission
Questions specific to registration as a real estate professional should be directed to the Commission’s Registration department. When ready to begin the process of applying for registration, follow the directions on the Commission’s website for submitting the required documentation and application form.
