Introduction to the Bachelor of Education Program
The University of British Columbia's Okanagan campus offers a 16-month post-degree Bachelor of Education program designed to inspire future generations. Program Overview
The Bachelor of Education program is a 60-credit degree that can be completed in 16 months. It is offered by the Okanagan School of Education and is designed to provide students with extensive practical experience through two school-based practicums, community fieldwork, and a 15-week internship.
Degree Options
The program offers two pathways: Teaching Children (Kindergarten to Grade 5) and Teaching Adolescents (Grade 6 to 9+). Students may choose French as their language of instruction in either pathway.

Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Education program, students must have:
- A minimum of 75 hours of practical experience (volunteer or paid) working with young people, preferably at the age range they are proposing to teach.
- Completed a four-year (minimum 120-credit) bachelor's degree or equivalent at an accredited post-secondary institution.
- A minimum average of 65% in the last 30 credits of transferable post-secondary coursework passed, failed, and/or repeated.
- 6 credits of English or French literature and composition with a minimum average of 65%.
- 3 credits of Canadian Studies.
- 3 credits in a laboratory science.
- 3 credits of Mathematics.

English Language Requirement
English is the language of instruction at UBC. If students completed their degree at a university in a country where English is not the only official language, they may need to provide results of an English language proficiency test as part of their application.
Teaching French | Parcours français
The Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) French Pathways prepares teachers to teach from kindergarten to grade 9+ in:
- French to teach Core French (and English for other teachables as qualified)
- French to teach in French Immersion or Francophone schools
To apply for the French pathways, students need to meet the admission criteria for either the Teaching Children or Teaching Adolescents Pathway.

In addition to tuition and student fees, Bachelor of Education students have program fees that cover general program expenses, including field trips and workshops.
