Program Overview

UBC Certificate Program in Industrial Wood Finishing

The UBC Certificate Program in Industrial Wood Finishing is designed to cover key questions that businesses have on topics such as how wood properties affect finishing, the best types of coatings, application equipment, and curing methods for wood products, testing and monitoring the quality of wood finishes, environmental regulations and trends affecting manufacturing businesses, and creating green products without compromising on quality or price.

Program Structure

The program is structured in two distinct parts:

  • Part 1: Learn all of the theory online through an e-learning website, requiring approximately one hour per day for 12 weeks. Study at home or at work, with ongoing phone and email support from an online tutor and interaction with other trainees via online discussions.
  • Part 2: Attend a 6-day practical session, normally in Vancouver or at an alternate facility, which includes hands-on practice, demonstrations from industry experts, and plant tours.
