Dental Specialty Assessment and Training Program (DSATP)
Program Overview
About the DSATP
The Dental Specialty Assessment & Training Program (DSATP) is open to applicants from non-accredited dental programs who want to practice in Canada. The program assesses candidates’ didactic and clinical knowledge, skill, and judgement in their specialty area and identifies areas that require additional training.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the DSATP, the required training to address knowledge and/or skill deficiencies must be completed in less than 12 months.
Application Process
The deadline for fully documented applications for programs commencing in the same year is January 15th.
Selection of Candidates
The selection of candidates is based on the assessment of their didactic and clinical knowledge, skill, and judgement in their specialty area.
Fees
No information is provided about the fees for the DSATP.
Courses
Successful candidates to the DSATP are required to register in the following courses:
- DENT 740 – Clinical Dentistry
- DENT 778 – Interdisciplinary Graduate Seminars: Interdisciplinary Treatment Planning II Successful candidates may be required to register in program-specific coursework as determined by the Program Director and assessment results.
Specialties
The Faculty of Dentistry offers DSATP training in the following specialties:
- Orthodontics
- Pediatric Dentistry
- Periodontics Please note: DSATP training in all specialties may not be offered in a given academic year.
Certificate of Completion
Upon successful completion of the DSATP, the Faculty of Dentistry will provide a certificate of completion to the student. Upon request, the Faculty of Dentistry will provide a letter to the Royal College of Dentists of Canada confirming the student’s eligibility to write the National Dental Specialty Examination (NDSE) administered by the National Dental Examining Board of Canada.
