Master of Health Science (MHSc)

The Master of Health Science (MHSc) is a professional degree that provides strong research methodology skills. Applicants must have an MD or equivalent, including dentistry or veterinary medicine, and will learn skills that can be applied to their academic and clinical interests, bolstering their research abilities and opportunities.

The MHSc program is a 30-credit program that aims to equip students with the skills to become better researchers, allowing them to find evidence-based solutions to complex health problems. Students who have completed the MHSc have gone on to a wide range of careers, including infectious disease specialists, data managers, and neurologists.


Admission Requirements

  • Applicants must have an MD or equivalent, including dentistry or veterinary medicine.
  • Additional requirements may apply, including a focus on Psychiatry, which requires two psychiatry-specific electives and a scholarly project as a major paper suitable for publication.

Program Details

  • The program is offered in collaboration with the UBC Department of Psychiatry, with a focus on Psychiatry available.
  • Students completing the MHSc with a focus on Psychiatry will complete two psychiatry-specific electives and a scholarly project as a major paper suitable for publication (the Major Essay).
  • The scholarly project will be supervised by an approved faculty member of the UBC Department of Psychiatry.
