Program Overview
The Midwifery Program at the University of British Columbia is a competitive program that requires applicants to complete a minimum of 24 transferable post-secondary credits by the end of the application deadline term. The program has specific admission requirements, including prerequisites and immunization standards.
Admission Requirements
The admission requirements for the Midwifery Program include:
- Completing a minimum of 24 transferable post-secondary credits by the end of the application deadline term
- Meeting the UBC general admission requirements, including the minimum grade point average as defined by the UBC Calendar
- Completing the post-secondary courses BIOL 155 (Human Biology: Physiology and Introductory Anatomy) or an approved equivalent, and WRDS 150 (Writing and Research in the Disciplines) or an approved equivalent
Transfer Credit
UBC Admissions will determine the amount of transfer credits awarded to a student at the time of admission. Students should consult the BC Transfer Guide to determine which courses are recognized by UBC.
Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)
Applicants who wish to have courses assessed for equivalency can submit a Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) application. The PLAR application fee is $50 and is non-refundable.
Midwifery Program Prerequisites
The Midwifery Program prerequisites include:
- BIOL 155 (Human Biology: Physiology and Introductory Anatomy) or an approved equivalent
- WRDS 150 (Writing and Research in the Disciplines) or an approved equivalent
Midwifery Vaccine Requirements
All students enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine are required to meet the immunization standards established by the UBC Student Health Services. Students who do not comply with the immunization requirements will not be permitted to participate in any clinical placement course.
Indigenous Admissions Stream
The Midwifery Program reserves seats for qualifying Indigenous applicants each year. Applicants may self-identify as Indigenous on their UBC application or through the Midwifery Supplemental Application. Qualifying Indigenous applicants will complete an Indigenous panel interview in addition to the Midwifery interview.
