Program Overview
The Chemical Safety-Okanagan program is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of legislative guidelines and best practices for general safety, storage, handling, controls, and emergency procedures.
Course Description
This course discusses legislative guidelines such as the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations (TDG), as well as UBC best-practices for general safety, storage, handling, controls, and emergency procedures.
Course Structure
- Part 1: 6 x 15 minute online modules, each followed by a quiz and a final exam after all modules
- The online modules are designed to provide a foundation in chemical safety
- Part 2: a 4 hour virtual session on-line that ends in a quiz
- The virtual session provides an opportunity for participants to apply their knowledge
- Part 3: a 15 minute in person session where participants demonstrate their ability to clean up a basic chemical spill
- The in-person session allows participants to practice their skills in a hands-on environment
