Course Details: Food and Travel Writing

Course Description

This course teaches the craft of food and travel writing and storytelling. Students learn how to turn their food and travel experiences into stories for blogs, social media, magazines, newspapers, and digital outlets. The course covers restaurant reviewing, cookbook and recipe writing, and techniques to make travel stories stand out.

  • Week 1: Understanding food and travel writing
  • Week 2: Journalling and developing ideas
  • Week 3: Query letters and blogging
  • Week 4: Restaurant reviews
  • Week 5: Structuring your story
  • Week 6: Digital photography basics
  • Week 7: Recipe stories
  • Week 8: Final words of advice

Assessment

The course is marked complete/incomplete based on attendance and participation. Students receive personalized feedback on assignments.


Expected Effort

Students are expected to spend 3-4 hours per week on readings, exercises, assignments, and online forum discussions.

  • The latest version of a web browser
  • A reliable internet connection

Course Format

The course is 100% online and instructor-supported. Course work is done independently within deadlines set by the instructor. A new module is released each week.
