Career Coaching Practitioner

The Career Coaching Practitioner course is a dynamic and holistic 8-week career coach training program that equips coaches with the tools needed to support career-focused conversations. This course is not a coaching certification but provides participants with the skills and approaches to tap into self-reflection, visioning, goal-setting, implementing, and more to strengthen clients' relationships with themselves and enhance their ability to make decisions and navigate their careers.

  • Continuing Coach Education Units (CCEUs): 20 units approved by the International Coaching Federation

Course Outline

The course covers the Hope-Action Theory, a model that connects career development, organizational coaching, and approaches to purposeful career conversations. Participants will learn to:


  • Use and apply the Hope-Action Theory
  • Strengthen clients' relationships with themselves to enhance their abilities to make career decisions
  • Observe and work with environmental factors and influences in a resilient and sustainable way
  • Access personal and systemic resilience and adaptability through a process of personal mastery and reflective practice

Assessment and Certification

Participants are assessed based on assignments, a capstone project, and a self-reflection demonstrating their transformation journey. Upon completion, participants receive:


  • An Advanced Practitioner Certification in Hope-Action Theory & Practice from Doubleknot Works
  • A Letter of Completion from UBC Extended Learning, including confirmation of completing 20 ICF Continuing Coach Education Units (CCEUs)

Technology Requirements

To participate in the course, students need:


  • An email account
  • A computer, laptop, or tablet under five years old with access to a video camera and microphone
  • The latest version of a web browser
  • A reliable internet connection

The course includes:


  • Live weekly online sessions (Thursdays, 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm Pacific Time)
  • Pre-recorded webinars and skill demonstrations
  • Reading assignments and book excerpts
  • Assignments to deepen learning
  • Access to resources and practical tools to support the implementation of new interventions with clients
