Introduction to the Internal Medicine Residency Program

The University of Chicago's Internal Medicine Residency Program is driven by a commitment to addressing the health needs of Chicago's South Side community. This mission is rooted in the recognition of significant health care disparities resulting from decades of segregation, racism, and ill-informed policies. The program aims to train resilient and resourceful healthcare providers capable of managing medically complex and socially disadvantaged patients.

Our graduates are characterized by their ability to:

  • Utilize evidence-based concepts in delivering high-quality patient care
  • Seek opportunities to improve the healthcare system in which they work
  • Excel in academic fellowships and academic careers in general medicine sub-specialties
