Honours Thesis

  • SEE students are required to complete a thesis as part of their undergraduate Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) (BASc) degree requirements
  • The thesis is a formal report based on a research, development, or engineering design project undertaken in an industry setting, a university laboratory, or a combination of both
  • Upon completion, students must defend their thesis

End of Spring Semester (April) Begin researching potential thesis topics and contact industry partners (for industry-partnered theses)
Mid-June Contact potential professors with a brief overview of proposed thesis topic for thesis committee formation
Late June Form thesis committee
Mid July Attend Instructor Information Session
End of July Attend Capstone/Thesis student social event
Mid Aug. Submit project and committee details to instructors
Mid-Aug Complete and sign thesis committee member forms for submission and approval to enroll
Late Aug Submit signed forms, along with a brief thesis objective/summary, for approval to enroll once the Fall semester begins
Late Aug.-Early Sep. Obtain instructor project approval
Early Oct. Hold the first committee meeting
Mid Nov. Integrate business, social, and economic considerations into the project
Early- Mid December First presentation (Design Review)
