Program Overview
The EVAL800 course is part of the Evaluation for Social Change and Transformational Learning Certificate program. This course aims to deepen the understanding of using evaluation as a strategy for transformation and learning.
Course Description
In this course, students will learn about the important role of critical reflexivity in evaluation and how to situate themselves within their work's broader professional, political, and societal landscapes. The course will also explore how reflective practice and critical thinking create space for transformation and learning through evaluation.
Course Objectives
After completing this course, students will be able to:
- Locate themselves within broader contexts and systems
- Reflect on Indigenous ways of knowing and their own worldviews
- Examine power and privilege and how these concepts relate to evaluation
- Distinguish between dominant and transformative evaluation landscapes
- Examine their own values and ethics and locate their ethical framework within broader landscapes (e.g., social justice and equity)
- Engage in reflective practice, and apply these concepts to evaluation practice
- Critique and challenge concepts in evaluation
- Identify significant directions for the evaluation field
- Apply key concepts to empowering evaluation practice
- Explain how evaluation can be used to support transformation and learning
- Apply a reconciliation lens to evaluation through a deeper understanding of reconciliation in Canada
