Program Overview
The Building a Case for Business Change course is designed to help organizations succeed in today's complex and changing world. This course teaches students to create positive and achievable change by breaking the change process into manageable steps.
Course Description
In this course, students will learn to analyze the current state of an organization from various perspectives, generate insights about the organization and its customers, and identify the right problems to solve. They will also learn to seek alternative resolutions, assess the implications of each, and combine their findings into a compelling business case that communicates a clear and effective vision across the organization.

Learning Outcomes
After completing this course, students should be able to:
- Analyze an organization’s key stakeholders and industry position to guide the focus of a business case
- Assess existing systems and the organization’s future strategy to pinpoint the right problem(s) to solve
- Evaluate alternative solutions that balance priorities and align with the organization’s future strategy
- Assess organizational readiness to adapt to proposed changes in a business case
- Develop a staged delivery approach to prepare stakeholders and the organization to strategically adapt to proposed changes
- Create a cohesive business case communicating a compelling value proposition for an organization
Evaluation
Students will be evaluated on a Pass/Fail basis on:
- Assignments
- Individual or group projects and presentations
- Participation and attendance

Technical Requirements
For online courses, students will need a computer with audio and microphone that is connected to the internet. Canvas is the online system that will be used for the course.
Professional Development Credits
This course can be applied towards professional development hours for the Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) designation. SFU is an Academic Program Member with the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA).
