Overview
The Business Analytics program is designed to provide students with the skills to analyze organizational performance measures from both qualitative and quantitative perspectives. Students will learn to quantify process changes using financial analysis, an essential component of business analysis.
Program Description
The program introduces students to income statements, the difference between capital and operating expenses, and financial analysis tools such as cost-benefit analysis, net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), and return on investments (ROI). Students will also learn to apply what-if analysis to produce a range of outcomes that support informed decision-making and apply strategy analysis to identify and address organizational needs.
Program Structure
- The program consists of a series of courses, including BAC135, which focuses on business analytics.
- The program can be completed online, with each course lasting 3 days.
- The tuition fee for each course is $1,290.
Learning Outcomes
After completing the program, students should have a general knowledge of:
- Analyzing proposed solutions from both qualitative and quantitative perspectives
- Assessing a strategic analysis framework to ensure alignment with stakeholder and organizational goals
- Evaluating the performance and value of a solution currently used within an organization
- Assessing the financial viability, stability, and benefit of a recommended solution using financial analysis tools to guide decision-making
- Analyzing complex data sets that guide the business analysis process by using MS Excel
Evaluation and Assessment
Students will be evaluated on a Pass/Fail basis on:
- Assignments
- Individual or group projects and presentations
- Participation and attendance
Graduation Requirements
To graduate with the Business Analysis Certificate, students must successfully pass all nine courses.
Learning Materials
- Course fees do not include textbooks.
- The required textbook is "A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge" (BABOK Guide v3), available for purchase from online or local bookstores, or through the IIBA website.
Technical Requirements
For online courses, students will need a computer with audio and microphone that is connected to the internet. Canvas is the online system used for the course. Students must have a computer capable of running Office 365.
Professional Development Credits
SFU is an Academic Program Member with the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA). This course can be applied towards professional development hours for the Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) designation. The program offers 21 IIBA professional development hours.
