Master track Nutrition and Dietetics
Program Overview
Master Track Nutrition and Dietetics
The Master track Nutrition and Dietetics is designed for individuals interested in becoming academic dietitians, combining practice and science. This track is part of the biomedical Master's program in Nutrition and Health, specializing in Nutritional Physiology and Health Status. It aims to enhance the expertise of dietitians at an academic level, providing in-depth knowledge of energy and nutrient metabolism, nutrition and disease throughout the life cycle, and dietetics and nutrition research.
Program Description
The program focuses on the role of nutritional status, diet, and lifestyle in the prevention and treatment of common and complex diseases requiring diet interventions. Students develop high-level research skills to design, conduct, interpret, and implement evidence-based and practice-based dietetics and nutrition research. Dietetic skills, such as clinical reasoning and evidence-based dietetics, are taught at an advanced level, and skills in nutritional assessment and clinimetrics are further optimized.
Why Choose This Track?
- Opportunity to bring your knowledge and dietetic skills to a Master's level.
- Opportunity to develop your research skills at a high level to improve patient outcomes and strive for optimal evidence-based dietetics in your career in clinical practice, education, industry, or government.
- This Master's track opens the door to careers as an academic dietitian.
Study Program
The track is a two-year full-time program developed for dietitians worldwide. In the first year, students build a strong theoretical foundation for their expertise in academic dietetics. The program consists of courses aimed at broadening or deepening knowledge and skills. To prepare for their professional internship and future career, students can choose between the Academic Consultancy Training or the Bio-Tech-Med-Nutr Interdisciplinary Team Training, where they work with Master's students from other disciplines on disease-related challenges.
For detailed information on the courses, refer to the latest study guide, available from the end of April. A study advisor will guide students in shaping their personal learning plan, which also allows for the addition of other in-depth or broadening courses from the Master's program.
The second year of the program includes a thesis (6 months) and an internship (4 months). During the graduation period, students work on a research question from the practice of dietetics, demonstrating that they operate at an academic level, focused on designing, conducting, and interpreting research. During the 4-month internship, students apply their research skills and knowledge in, for example, a healthcare environment (hospital, institution, or primary care), industry, or at the policy level.
