Program Overview

The program "Doelsturing: oplossingsrichting voor stikstof, water en klimaat in de Nederlandse landbouw" is designed for policy officers or project officers working in government or advisory agencies. The course aims to provide participants with a critical understanding of the problems surrounding nitrogen emissions, soil and water quality, and greenhouse gas emissions in the Dutch agricultural sector.

Target Audience

The program is intended for policy officers and project leaders working in provinces, water boards, and advisory agencies who are involved in area plans for the rural area (agriculture and nature) with attention to:


  • Air quality and the nitrogen problem, protecting Natura 2000 areas
  • Water quality, achieving the goals of the Water Framework Directive
  • Soil and climate, capturing carbon and emissions of methane and nitrous oxide

Learning Outcomes

Program Content

During this course, participants will learn about the nitrogen cycle, the phosphorus cycle, and the carbon cycle in detail. They will also gain insight into the soil processes that play a role and their influence on air, soil, and water quality and climate. The program will provide a clear overview of sources and losses to air and water.
