Scientific Writing for Professionals

The Scientific Writing for Professionals program is designed for researchers who want to improve their scientific texts. This training course guides participants step by step towards creating a clear and well-structured scientific text.

Target Group

• The program is intended for researchers who aim to enhance their scientific writing skills.
• Participants are expected to be currently working on an article or another longer scientific text when they start the course.

Course Content

The course focuses on professionalizing and optimizing English scientific texts. It is a practical and goal-oriented training where participants work with their own text. The teacher provides feedback to help edit and optimize the text. The following topics may be covered:

• Purpose and message
• Paragraph structure, argumentation, and flow
• Reader-centred writing
• Techniques to enhance readability
• Scientific writing style and how to vary it
• Correct and clear wording
• Use of sources (quoting and paraphrasing)
• Grammar and vocabulary

Intake

• The program begins with a free intake interview and an Oxford Online Placement Test to determine the participant's starting level, learning objectives, and wishes.

Certification

• Upon completing the course, participants receive a certificate from Wageningen in’to Languages.
• For those taking the course as part of Wageningen University & Research Language Guideline, skills are assessed throughout the course based on submitted writing assignments. A certificate is awarded if sufficient improvement is demonstrated.

Fee

• The fee for the program depends on the number of sessions, and participants receive a personalized offer.
