Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the Biology program, students must meet specific requirements based on their prior education.
Admission Requirements with a Dutch Prior Education
- Vwo-diploma: Students can be admitted with the following vwo profiles:
- Natuur en Gezondheid, supplemented with physics
- Natuur en Techniek, supplemented with biology
- Economie en Maatschappij, supplemented with physics, chemistry, and biology
- Cultuur en Maatschappij, supplemented with physics, chemistry, mathematics A or B, and biology
- Hbo propedeuse: Additional certificates are required:
- Mathematics A or B at 6 vwo level
- English at 6 vwo level
- Chemistry at 6 vwo level
- Physics at 6 vwo level
- Biology at 6 vwo level
- Dutch: minimum NT2 II / CNaVT (STRT or EDUP)
- Hbo bachelor: Additional certificates are required:
- Mathematics A or B at 6 vwo level
- English at 6 vwo level
- Chemistry at 6 vwo level
- Physics at 6 vwo level
- Biology at 6 vwo level

Admission Requirements with a Foreign Prior Education
A foreign diploma does not always provide direct admission. Students must register for the study in Studielink as soon as possible. After registration, students will receive an email with information about their personal VU dashboard, where they can upload all necessary documents for the admission assessment.
21+ Admission Test
For students who are 21 years or older and do not have a diploma that grants admission to a university bachelor's program, there is the possibility of being admitted based on the 21+ admission test. The following certificates are required:
- English at 6 vwo level
- Physics at 6 vwo level
- Chemistry at 6 vwo level
- Mathematics A or B at 6 vwo level
- Biology at 6 vwo level
- Dutch: minimum NT2 II / CNaVT (STRT or EDUP)
VU Study Choice Check
The VU Study Choice Check is part of the application procedure for all VU bachelor's programs. It consists of two parts: a digital questionnaire and a study choice activity organized by the program. This check helps determine if the study matches the student's expectations and if the student is a good fit for the program.
Binding Study Advice (BSA)
To receive a positive study advice, students must have earned at least 42 EC by the end of the first year of enrollment in the program. Students can view their results and the overview of their achieved results after each exam.
