Program Overview
Computer Science Master's Programme
The Computer Science Master's programme at VU Amsterdam is a joint degree with the University of Amsterdam (UvA), offering students the expertise, networks, and research projects of both universities and affiliated research institutes. The programme allows students to specialise in one of five distinct tracks:
- Big Data Engineering
- Foundations of Computing and Concurrency
- Computer Systems and Infrastructure
- Software Engineering and Green IT
- International specialisation: Software Engineers for Green Deal (SE4GD), with intake in 2026.
Programme Overview
The programme is designed to approach computer science from many different perspectives, from the technical foundations of our information society to non-functional aspects such as the energy efficiency of data centers. Students will benefit from the expertise and research projects at both VU Amsterdam and the UvA, as well as affiliated research institutes. Courses are taught at locations of both universities, and students will receive a joint degree certificate on graduation.
Programme Structure
The programme is a two-year, full-time Master's degree, taught in English. It is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of computer science, as well as the skills and knowledge required to shape the connected future.
