Aardwetenschappen Program Overview

The Aardwetenschappen program at VU Amsterdam is designed for students who are passionate about applying beta sciences to understand the world around them. The program focuses on the study of the Earth's systems, including its climate, geology, and natural processes.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the Aardwetenschappen program, students must meet the following admission requirements:


  • A vwo-diploma with a profile in Natuur en Gezondheid, Natuur en Techniek, Economie en Maatschappij, or Cultuur en Maatschappij, with additional requirements in mathematics, physics, and chemistry.
  • A hbo-propedeuse with additional certificates in mathematics, physics, and chemistry.
  • A hbo-bachelor with additional certificates in mathematics, physics, and chemistry.
  • For students with a non-Dutch diploma, additional requirements may apply, including English language proficiency and mathematics, physics, and chemistry certificates.

Toelatingseisen 21+ Toelatingsonderzoek

Students who are 21 years or older and do not have a diploma that grants direct admission to a university bachelor's program may be eligible for the 21+ toelatingsonderzoek. This requires additional certificates in English, mathematics, physics, and chemistry, as well as a minimum level of Dutch language proficiency.


Toelatingseisen met een Buitenlandse Vooropleiding

Students with a non-Dutch diploma must meet additional requirements, including English language proficiency and mathematics, physics, and chemistry certificates. The admission requirements will be communicated by the admissions committee after the student has submitted their application.


VU Studiekeuzecheck

The VU Studiekeuzecheck is a mandatory part of the application process for all bachelor's programs at VU Amsterdam. The check consists of two parts: a digital questionnaire and a study choice activity. The activity for the Aardwetenschappen program is a proefstuderen day, which will be scheduled in June.


Bindend Studie Advies (BSA)

To receive a positive study advice, students must have earned at least 42 EC by the end of the first year of enrollment. Students can view their results and progress through the VU dashboard.
