Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements with a Dutch Prior Education
Students with a Dutch prior education must have a VWO diploma in one of the following profiles:
- Natuur en Gezondheid, supplemented with mathematics B and physics
- Natuur en Techniek
- Economie en Maatschappij, supplemented with mathematics B, physics, and chemistry
- Cultuur en Maatschappij, supplemented with mathematics B, physics, and chemistry
Alternatively, students with an HBO propedeuse or HBO bachelor degree must have completed additional certificates in:
- Mathematics B at the 6 VWO level
- Physics at the 6 VWO level
- Chemistry at the 6 VWO level
- Dutch at the 6 VWO level

Admission Requirements with a Foreign Prior Education
Students with a foreign prior education must have a diploma that grants direct admission to a university bachelor's program. If the diploma does not grant direct admission, the student must apply for the program and upload the required documents to their VU dashboard. The admission committee will then assess the student's eligibility.
Additional requirements may include:
- A certificate in English at the 6 VWO level
- A certificate in Dutch: minimum NT2 II / CNaVT (STRT or EDUP)
- A certificate in physics at the 6 VWO level
- A certificate in chemistry at the 6 VWO level
- A certificate in mathematics B at the 6 VWO level
21+ Admission Test
Students who are 21 years or older and do not have a diploma that grants direct admission to a university bachelor's program can take the 21+ admission test. To be eligible, students must have completed certificates in:
- English at the 6 VWO level
- Dutch at the 6 VWO level
- Mathematics B at the 6 VWO level
- Physics at the 6 VWO level
- Chemistry at the 6 VWO level
