Program Description
The Computational Science program aims to elucidate the intricate world we inhabit through modeling and simulation. By gathering data and constructing computer models, computational scientists can make informed predictions that address diverse challenges. Some examples of applications in this field include:
- Predicting the trajectory of a tornado
- Analyzing the intricacies of financial market behavior
- Simulating surgical outcomes prior to implementation on patients
- Optimizing traffic flow
- Forecasting the spread of epidemics
In this joint degree program, students will learn to apply algorithmic procedures, mathematics, and logic. The training includes the practical application of acquired knowledge and skills across various natural science research areas.
Curriculum Highlights
In this program, students will engage in real-world data analysis and problem-solving, receiving training in:
- Computational modeling
- Data management techniques
- Supercomputing
- Machine learning
- Additional relevant areas within computational science
Students benefit from classes taught at both the University of Amsterdam and VU Amsterdam, thus enhancing access to extensive expertise, professional networks, and research opportunities in Computational Science. The diploma earned will be jointly accredited by both institutions.
