Geneeskunde Program at VU

The Geneeskunde program at VU is a unique and challenging course of study that prepares students for a career in medicine. The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in the field of medicine, including both theoretical and practical training.

Toelatingseisen (Admission Requirements)

To be eligible for the Geneeskunde program, students must meet certain admission requirements. These requirements include:

• A VWO diploma (obtained from 2010 onwards) with one of the following profiles:
  • Natuur en Gezondheid (Nature and Health) with additional courses in physics
  • Natuur en Techniek (Nature and Technology) with additional courses in biology
  • Economie en Maatschappij (Economics and Society) with additional courses in physics, chemistry, and biology
  • Cultuur en Maatschappij (Culture and Society) with additional courses in physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics A or B
• For students who obtained their VWO diploma before 2010, additional VWO certificates are required in:
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Mathematics A or B
• For students with an HBO propedeuse (higher professional education), additional certificates are required in:
  • Physics at 6 VWO level
  • Chemistry at 6 VWO level
  • Mathematics A or B at 6 VWO level
  • Biology at 6 VWO level
  • Dutch: minimum NT2 II / CNaVT (STRT or EDUP)
• For students with an HBO bachelor's degree, additional certificates are required in:
  • Physics at 6 VWO level
  • Chemistry at 6 VWO level
  • Mathematics A or B at 6 VWO level
  • Biology at 6 VWO level
  • Dutch: minimum NT2 II / CNaVT (STRT or EDUP)

Toelatingseisen 21+ Toelatingsonderzoek (Admission Requirements for 21+ Toelatingsonderzoek)

For students who are 21 years or older and do not have a diploma that grants direct admission to a university bachelor's program, there is the possibility of being admitted through the 21+ toelatingsonderzoek. The following certificates must be obtained at 6 VWO level:

• Dutch
• English
• Mathematics A or B
• Physics
• Chemistry
• Biology

Toelatingseisen met Behaald Buitenlands Diploma (Admission Requirements for Students with a Foreign Diploma)

A foreign diploma does not always grant direct admission. Students must apply for the program through Studielink and upload the required documents to their VU dashboard. The following additional admission requirements may apply:

• Certificate of English at 6 VWO level
• Certificate of Dutch: minimum NT2 II / CNaVT (STRT or EDUP)
• Certificate of mathematics A or B at 6 VWO level
• Certificate of physics at 6 VWO level
• Certificate of chemistry at 6 VWO level
• Certificate of biology at 6 VWO level

Numerus Fixus

The Geneeskunde program at VU is a numerus fixus program, which means that there is a limited number of places available each year. The deadline for application is January 15th. Students can apply for the program through Studielink and must complete their application within six weeks and no later than one week after the application deadline.
